Letter from Daryl Dennis, President, CFAW

July 2008

Dear Fellow CFA Society of Washington Member,

I would like to welcome you to a new year as a member of CFAW. In addition, I thank those of you who expressed confidence in me to be the next President of CFAW. We just finished fiscal year 2007-2008 and are actively planning for fiscal year 2008-2009. We have a very capable group of officers and board members who I am confident will provide you with meaningful events throughout the coming year.

The officers and board members have adopted three key themes as we planned for the upcoming fiscal year:

1. Improve upon last year
2. Improve our outreach in the community
3. Give back to our membership

In order to achieve these goals, the officers and board members have already held a strategic planning session and are actively preparing for the upcoming year. It is our goal to provide the membership with a robust line-up of programs, networking and educational opportunities.

As you know, all officers and board members are volunteers and we pay an association management company to provide us with operational and administrative support. I make this point to illustrate the need for members to volunteer for at least one of the committees that support our efforts. Our Society is only as strong as its membership, and we need members to volunteer in support of our goal of providing meaningful events. We will have our Kick-Off Event (details are forthcoming) in September and I would encourage everyone to speak with Committee Chairs and volunteer for a committee that interests you at the Kick-Off Event.

During the upcoming year our Society will make a concerted effort to increase awareness of the CFA Charter and the CFA Brand. This will be accomplished primarily through our outreach efforts with local employers and universities. But as chaterholders, we all bear some responsibility to help the public know that the CFA designation is the gold standard for investment professionals.

Finally, I would like to thank the outgoing officers and board members who worked very hard to help our Society realize the successes it has achieved over the past fiscal year, especially our outgoing President—Ellen Safir, CFA.

I am looking forward to an exciting year and hope to see you at upcoming events.

Best regards,

Daryl
